    คำว่า กาฬ แปลว่า สีดำ มึด (หรืออาจจะหมายถึง ความตาย ,สิ่งที่น่ากลัว) ซึ่งคนไทยโบราณมักจะเกรงกลัวพระกาฬมาก จนพูดติดปากเป็นคำสบถสาบานว่า " ให้พระแก้ว พระกาฬ มาหักคอซิเอ้า"
